Fairtrade Fortnight

Fairtrade Steering Group at Leeds Met

What is Fairtrade?

Fairtrade guarantees that farmers, workers and producers in the developing world receive a fair price.

The money received for their crop covers the cost of production, a basic wage and a small amount of money to put back into clean water, health and education projects. Fairtrade in the UK is co-ordinated by the Fairtrade Foundation, based in London. The Fairtrade Foundation controls the use of an independent certification label called the FAIRTRADE Mark:

The FAIRTRADE Mark appears on over 1,000 products in the UK. It is your guarantee that the producer in the developing world will receive a fair price for that product. One of the best ways to tackle poverty in developing countries is to build trade links that offer a stable source of income to farmers and their communities.
