Global Perspectives Network

The Global Perspectives Network is an email based linkage of academic, administrative and support staff in British Universities.

Can Higher Education in the UK become a real force for good in addressing the major threats to the earth and its people in the 21st century?

The Global Perspectives Network is an email based linkage of academic, administrative and support staff in British universities. It exists to work towards a positive answer to that opening question.

Members: In over 40 HE Institutions and associated organisations

Aims: Network members work within HE
• To promote responsible global citizenship
• To raise awareness on issues of sustainability
• To explore causes of global inequities and work for change
• To stimulate debate on learning, teaching and research in HE, in relation to these global realities
• To challenge values that leave the global status quo intact
• To demonstrate that a global perspectives approach enriches all academic disciplines

Background: The Global Perspectives in Higher Education Network was launched at the British University Chaplains’ conference 2001. Since then it has expanded, so that the majority of members are now academics.

Current activities: Biannual emails encourage members in this work by sharing examples of good practice, and giving information on conferences and publications.
