Peace Information Network

This will be a place where dates in the year that have to do with activities that promote peace will be listed and described.

Sadly, women have long been ignored in the political and military establishment concerning war. However, their voices are now becoming heard and this day is a celebration of the movement for peace and disarmament towards which women continue to work.

"Women Peacemakers Program - Mission Statement The International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR) believes that without peace, development is impossible, and without women, neither peace nor development can take place.

IFOR’s Women Peacemakers Program (WPP) began in 1997 and works to support and strengthen women's peacemaking initiatives.

The WPP believes that programs that specifically empower women peacemakers, and encourage women and girls to become involved in peacebuilding and civil society building, are essential for development.

WPP's objective is to increase the empowerment of women through active nonviolence.

International Women's Day for Peace and Disarmament

"IFOR's Women Peacemakers Program published an action pack to help women and women's organisations to celebrate May 24, the International Women's Day for Peace and Disarmament. The celebration of this day began in Europe in the early 1980s, when hundreds of thousands of women organised against nuclear weapons and the arms race. Since the 1995 UN World Conference on Women in Beijing, the International Fellowship of Reconciliation and the International Peace Bureau have published an annual information pack to raise awareness of and increase support for women's peace initiatives. The 2005 Action Pack looks at women's nonviolent work for peace in the Pacific area, UN SC Resolution 1325 and women combatants."

The following is a website all about Gender and Disarmament -- how women for thousands of years have not been permitted to have a voice in wars and the effects of wars in any meaningful political way -- and how they are now making their voices heard.

Finally, a full downloadable pdf pamphlet about this issue can be found here

The next date to celebrate is 29th of May - Prayer for Peace Memorial Day
